Final Blog for LSKM 221

Image
As I write my final blog I must admit, that when I saw this subject for this semester and that it included music. I literally cringed. It was scary and very unchartered waters for me personally as I am not very musical. I enjoy music and love art, always felt strong about arts integration, but never really considered music. This semester and this subject really opened my eyes. I loved it and actually a bit sad that this subject is slowly coming to an end.   What was your experience of the role of individual reflection as part of the teaching and learning process? Use the following prompts to reflect on your blogging experience and the role that individual reflection played (or not) in your teaching and learning experience this semester: ·          What did you learn from your individual reflections? What I learned from the individual reflections is more than what I expected. I knew of music in foundation phase but never extended my kn...

Study Unit 5-Lesson Planning

Image
This week I'm feeling slightly more optimistic. It seems as if things are starting to settle more. As the semester is nearing its end it feels a little less stressful. Although there are many other things such as assignments, examinations, and tests to finalize. The only problem at the moment -and this is a personal feeling- is that mathematics this year seems nonstop, there is no end and no help or guidance what so ever, this causes me to become negative and slightly angry and what seems to be that of incompetence and lack of effort to help students understand. Enough of my negative relationship with mathematics. I am really enjoying this subject LSKM more than I anticipated, and that makes me happy and excited to do these blogs. This is my final blog regarding the study units. It was great to do some research and work through this unit. I've learned so much and really feel strongly about incorporating music more into the foundation phase, it is too often overlooked and not ...

Study Unit 3- Musical Play in the Foundation Phase

Image
Study Unit 3 Musical play in the Foundation Phase This week was a tough week, with lots of things to do, lots of assignments to submit, and plenty of tests to complete. I was relieved to see how interesting unit 3 of LSKMS was and actually enjoyed working through the content on efundi and the reader.   For my blog entry, I will be including Part 3 of the blog post entries to refer to specific content-related question/s posted in the lessons for each study unit on eFundi. 1. What is your opinion about the value of the content of this study unit for your teaching practice? My opinion about the value of this study unit is that it can be beneficial for me to learn more about diversity and how to include musical games in my teaching practice that will include all the learners in the classroom. It was interesting to read about what music entails and the different ways in which we can incorporate music. 2. Discuss the basic elements of play. There are seven elements of play accordi...

Study Unit 2 - Listening to and responding to music

Image
Study unit 2 Listening and Responding to Music ·    What new things did you become aware of when working through this study unit’s content? Firstly, I just want to say how very entertaining and fun this study unit was. I really enjoyed the music and the activities. Everything within study unit 2 was new to my knowledge. I have actually learned so much. It was very interesting to learn why we would move to the beat and how we unconsciously just start moving. I never knew how to figure out the meter in music, within the first video of Mrs. Rina Francis showing me how to do this using a ball and wooden spoons, I was surprised that I could actually understand this and know what she was talking about. So interesting and I really enjoyed this. To be honest I was really not looking forward to this study unit. I am really not very musical and probably tone-deaf too. But pleasantly surprised that I was able to manage and understand most of it. This gave me new confidence regardi...

Part 1: · How are you feeling; how has your week been? – in general or just with regard to your studies I am feeling slightly overwhelmed, which is a normal feeling for me to have in the beginning of a new semester until I know what, where and when, other than that I am feeling hopeful and kind of excited and nervous to see what will happen next, it is a very accomplishing feeling achieving goals that I set out for myself. My week has been busy, trying to set up a routine around the new semester. The rest of the subjects this semester is a bit stressful so I hope that LSKM can give a bit of fun and joy in between the craziness which is a distance student/part time study/work in between studies kind of life… Individual reflection 1.Would you please describe your confidence in your current knowledge and skills to teach music through movement in the Foundation Phase as you start your LSKM 221 journey? In your answer, please also refer to your confidence to integrate music in...

Self Introduction

💚 H i everyone, my name is Lindie Claassens, I am from a small town in Kwa-Zulu Natal called Richards Bay. A reason why I would like to become a foundation phase teacher is that I feel this is the age and stage of a child’s life that can easily be overlooked and deemed as less important, and that is the total opposite of what it is, I want to give children a good foundation and set them up with positivity towards school and learning, if the foundation is wrong all will crumble, I just want to make a little bit of a difference, but so does everyone. My passion is definitely language, I love learning languages and encouraging children to have a positive outlook on   learning a second or third language. I feel excited about LSKM 211 and a little bit anxious too as I am not sure what to expect and hope to be able to juggle everything, the start of a semester is always daunting and scary. I am not sure what to expect from this module, just hope it is fun and not as stressful.
