Final Blog for LSKM 221
As I write my final blog I must admit, that when I saw
this subject for this semester and that it included music. I literally cringed.
It was scary and very unchartered waters for me personally as I am not very
musical. I enjoy music and love art, always felt strong about arts integration,
but never really considered music. This semester and this subject really opened
my eyes. I loved it and actually a bit sad that this subject is slowly coming
to an end.
What was your experience of the
role of individual reflection as part of the teaching and learning process? Use
the following prompts to reflect on your blogging experience and the role that
individual reflection played (or not) in your teaching and learning experience
this semester:
·
What did you learn from your individual reflections?
What I learned from the
individual reflections is more than what I expected. I knew of music in foundation
phase but never extended my knowledge in such a way to truly understand the
importance of it. It was very interesting and very exciting to learn about music
and music integrations in so many areas.
·
What did you find challenging?
What I found challenging was
probably the way in which we can use music in different areas of teaching and
how to use music and integrate it properly and correctly with other subjects in
the foundation phase. There are many ways, however doing it the right way takes
more than just research. It needs to be tested and adjusted as we grow and
learn
·
Did you find the individual reflections meaningful? Please motivate your
answer.
I did find it meaningful,
at the start I would not say I did. However, as I write this final blog, I feel
a little bit sad to know it is the end. It meant more to me to reflect and
actually learned so much through this reflection. It is such a great way to
learn new concepts.
·
What would you change if you had the opportunity in future?
I would not change anything. It was really well planned and so well thought out. Dr. Rina Francis is an amazing lecture! She made the subject so much easier and really fun. I am grateful to finally enjoy the learning of music
1.
Please
share what you would change in the LSKM221 module if you had the opportunity.
The following prompts can guide your reflection:
·
What
did you find interesting and meaningful?
What I found interesting was
probably the entire subject, form study unit 1 up until study unit 5. I could
not wait to see when the next unit opened up and to start reading and write my
blog. What was meaningful was the way in which there was so much effort and detail
incorporated into the making of the units. The videos and the information were
so helpful.
·
What
challenged you, and what do you still struggle to understand?
Just as what I found the
entire subject meaningful and interesting. It was also really challenging. As I
personally did not have a great experience with music when I was in foundation
phase, I really did not have much interest. So, learning about all the concepts
and strategies were quite challenging, yet I was able to understand it well and
did not really struggle with anything.
·
What
didn’t you find valuable for your future teaching practice?
Everything in this
subject, all the information all the details and videos are valuable and something
that I will remember for many years to come. It is really valuable and I will
certainly be using these strategies and ideas in my future of teaching. Looking
forward to it!
